Urban Studies
Back in the early 2000's, after some years working in graphic design in the Silicon Valley, I returned to my hometown of Fresno and to Art. In spite of the fact that I was raised there, I found myself disconnected, with no real sense of identity with the city or the people. In my search for understanding and connection, I began to investigate my surroundings. These works are directly representative of my pursuit to penetrate the character and personality of where I lived, and to discover what place I might find in it as an artist. I used the computer to manipulate the digital photos in these works, but I have never been satisfied with any of the methods used to print digital art. Through necessity, I developed a new process, a hybrid of photography and printmaking using photo emulsion, full size negatives, and sunlight.
